Color flow echocardiography is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique that uses ultrasound to assess the blood flow and movement of the heart. It provides a visual representation of the direction, velocity, and pattern of blood flow within the chambers and major blood vessels of the heart.
In color flow echocardiography, different colors are superimposed onto the real-time two-dimensional echocardiogram, representing various velocities and directions of blood flow. The technique is based on the principle of the Doppler effect, wherein the frequency shift of sound waves reflected from moving objects is detected by the ultrasound machine and displayed as colors on the echocardiogram.
