Etymology of ZEATIN
The word "zeatin" derives from the plant hormone it was first discovered in, Zea mays, which is the scientific name for maize or corn. In 1963, zeatin was isolated from corn kernels by Folke Skoog and coworkers. The name "zeatin" was coined by combining "zea" with the suffix "-tin", which was commonly used for plant hormones at the time.
